Be a part of an unforgettable experience!

From October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, Expo 2020 Dubai – the world’s first Expo in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia – will be the driving force behind lasting environmental, social and economic changes around the world. Everyone is invited to get involved in creating a new world where life-changing experiences and innovations will be seen. The Expo also comes with a dynamic and diverse entertainment program from around the world.

The Expo 2020 exhibition complex is located in a purpose-built mini town with an area of approximately 5 square kilometres and offers futuristic architecture and the latest trends in development.

You will be able to stroll through 191 stunning country pavilions and explore the full range of surprises in the areas of innovation, technology, entertainment, diverse arts and cultures, cuisine, architecture, commerce, and education. Immersive experiences and relaxation with incredible live performances will touch all your senses.

After the end of Expo 2020 Dubai, the exhibition centre will be transformed into District 2020 – a sustainable smart city, which will continue to use at least 80 percent of the infrastructure built for Expo 2020.

There are three main areas to be explored at Expo 2020:

Sustainability District: Main Pavilion – Terra

The sustainability pavilion is full of international solutions aimed at protecting our planet for future generations. You will see solar and water systems, walk through rainforests and waterfalls while listening to the sounds of the Amazon basin. You will explore our oceans and coral reefs or an innovative vertical farm growing mushrooms.

After learning how each country manages sustainability through technology, you can relax in a number of plant-based and vegan restaurants, some located on a rooftop offering amazing views of the Expo site.

Mobility District: Main Pavilion – Alif

Drive in a futuristic vehicle, discover the mobility devices of the future or learn about the latest space exploration. The mobility pavilion connects the physical and digital worlds. Have you ever wanted to visit beautiful Australian landscapes, see the most interesting architecture of the Republic of Korea, or take a trip into the wilds of Botswana? Here is your chance.

There is a 330-meter-long runway that runs both underground and in the open air, so you can see mobility equipment in action, and the largest passenger lift in the world, which can transport more than 160 people at once.

Opportunity District: Main Pavilion – Mission Possible

You can follow the footsteps of inspiring personalities and social innovators and learn more about how to create a better future. Young, purposeful enthusiasts can also take part in specialized activities aimed at developing skills and empowering young people.

If you fancy a bit of VR experience, the Swiss Pavilion will take you on a hike through the foggy Alps or visit the Monaco Pavilion to experience the sights and sounds of The French Rivera.

Eat from the world’s Master Chefs

Indulge in delicious food and delight your taste buds with more than 50 national cuisines from around the world, from street food to luxury dishes. Experience sustainable foods that come from local sources and promote a healthy lifestyle. A venue of such scale and importance deserves the best chefs from all around the world.

You can taste a slice of LA’s Abbot Kinney Boulevard thanks to the Californian Michelin-starred chef David Myers.

If you love plant-based cuisine, then look no further because this area will be handled by an American celebrity chef and founder of dozens of vegan restaurants, Matthew Kenney.

Michelin-starred Rohit Ghai has become one of the culinary world’s most in-demand chefs after a hugely successful decade on the London restaurant scene and brings his acclaimed restaurant Kutir to Expo 2020.

Fancy some good spicy food? David Thompson, an Australian chef who devoted his life’s work to Thai cuisine will be also bringing his famous Thai street food to Dubai.

Food cravings will be satisfied for everyone at Dubai Expo. Many international concepts will be available from British doughnuts, gluten-free and sourdough breads, Beirut’s fresh ingredients from farm and sea, home-grown UAE favourites, colourful curries from India and Pakistan, Lebanese bakery, Filipino seafood grill, African seafood and street food to popular Syrian and Mediterranean desserts and meals.

If you are a bit more adventurous, you may enjoy some experimental dining by the UK-based multi-sensory experience design studio Bompas & Parr using specific NASA techniques to create desserts that change flavour or glow in the dark. Tickets to this Future of Food experience can be purchased directly at expo2020dubai.com.

Evolution of this grand event

The very first world exhibition known as the Great Exhibition took place in London’s Hyde Park in 1851, where it was visited by six million people. The building was hailed as an architectural marvel and later moved to south London, to the area now known as Crystal Palace.

The Louisiana Shopping Exhibition took place in St. Louis, USA in 1904 and was visited by more than 19 million people. From Alexander Graham Bell’s “radio”, the first cordless phone, to an X-ray machine and an ice cream cone could be seen.

Another world event took place in New York in 1939 in Queens and welcomed more than 44 million visitors featuring a concept similar to contemporary virtual reality headsets to the first colour TV.

Expo ’70 hosted 78 countries and welcomed more than 64 million visitors in Osaka, Japan. Today, we use some of the exhibits of that time in everyday life, such as the first mobile phone, the first IMAX movie and the belt on which sushi travels in restaurants.

Another World Expo took place in in Nagoya, Japan in 2005. The theme was “the wisdom of nature” and the exhibition focused on ecology and the wonders of nature. The event was attended by 121 countries and 22 million visitors. Worth mentioning is the first humanoid robot.
